Day 1: SAMBAVA
Embark on your Madagascar adventure with a flight to Sambava, a region renowned for its remarkable biodiversity. Upon arrival, experience the welcoming aroma of vanilla and the distinct taste of rum as you're transferred to your hotel. Sambava, a quaint town nestled amidst lush vegetation adorned with orchards, jackfruit, and mango trees, is not only famed for its vanilla but also for its coconut, rice, and coffee production. Take a serene stroll along the waterfront to soak in the town's charm before indulging in a delightful dinner and settling in for the night at your hotel.
Day 2: MAROJEJY
Breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a journey to Marojejy. Located 60 km from Sambava on the road to Andapa, access to the park is through a track that leads to Camp Mantella. This journey allows you to explore the lower part of the lush primary forests, where you may encounter various species of reptiles, amphibians, lemurs, and birds, including the Blue Coua and Prevost's Ground Roller. The trek to Camp Mantella takes approximately four hours from Manantenina, situated at an altitude of 450 meters. Spend the night at the campsite or in tents, immersing yourself in the wilderness of Marojejy.
Days 3-4: MAROJEJY
Breakfast at the campsite. Marojejy National Park offers a diverse landscape, from banana trees to high-altitude shrubs, featuring tree ferns and majestic ficus trees. Explore the park's rugged granite massif, characterized by tapering ridges, sharp peaks, and steep slopes. Encounter the Silky Sifaka, known for its dense, long, silky white coat. This unique species is easily observable in the park's forests. Enjoy bivouac-style camping under the stars in tents, immersing yourself in the wilderness of Marojejy.
Day 5: MAROJEJY - DARAINA
Breakfast at the camping site. Embark on a scenic journey towards Vohemar aboard our 4wd. Nestled at the base of a picturesque, lush bay, Vohemar boasts a serene atmosphere, protected by a stunning coral reef. Continuing our expedition, we head towards the Daraina Reserve. This pristine forest sanctuary is inhabited by the golden-crowned sifaka (Propithecus tattersalli), an endemic lemur species. Experience the tranquility of nature as you camp under the stars in tents, surrounded by the pristine wilderness of Daraina.
Day 6: ANKARANA
Breakfast at the camping site. Our journey to Ankarana begins with a challenging track to Ambilobe, followed by smoother terrain leading to Mahamasina, the eastern entrance to the Ankarana massif. Accompanied by our guide, embark on a rigorous 8-hour hike through Ankarana National Park, offering breathtaking panoramas of its majestic landscape and exceptional biodiversity. Explore vast limestone formations sculpted by erosion, encounter the red tsingy, and visit bat-inhabited caves with nests strewn along towering walls. Don't miss the chance to marvel at the sumptuous Lac Vert. Spend the night camping under the stars in tents, immersed in the natural beauty of Ankarana.
Day 7: RED TSINGY - DIEGO SUAREZ
Early morning breakfast. The journey from Ankarana to Diego Suarez may encounter deteriorating road conditions, with broken tar, but the stunning scenery compensates for the long drive times. Depart for the Red Tsingy, to the southeast of Diego. These unique formations, composed of sandstone, marl, and limestone, nestled at the foot of eroded canyons, offer a glimpse into nature's secrets. The fragile balance of the Red Tsingy, within Madagascar's only sedimentary basin, amidst heterogeneous vegetation, awaits your exploration. In the late afternoon, continue your drive to Diego Suarez. Conclude your day with dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 8: DIEGO SUAREZ
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, embark on a visit to the Three Bays: Sakalava Bay, Pigeons Bay, and Dunes Bay. You can opt for a leisurely three-hour walk along these bays to explore the rich fauna and flora. These uncrowded, tranquil beaches boast natural beauty with their fine white sand. Next, discover the Mined Cape, featuring a lighthouse and cannons dating back to the colonial era, offering breathtaking views of the entrance to Diego Suarez Bay. If the weather permits, you may even catch a glimpse of the clear waters of the Emerald Sea. Conclude your walk in Ramena, where you can witness the stunning beauty of the sunset before returning to your hotel in Diego Suarez. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 9: DIEGO SUAREZ - RETURN JOURNEY
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for further exploration around Diego Suarez. On today's agenda, transfer to Diego Suarez airport for your flight back home.
