Day 1 : ARRIVAL IN ANTANANARIVO
Upon arrival at Antananarivo international airport, you'll be warmly greeted and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy dinner and overnight, marking the beginning of your adventure in the capital city.
Day 2 : ON THE WAY TO ANTSIRABE
Departing from the capital in the early morning, road trip to Antsirabe, 170 km away. Along the way, immerse yourself in verdant landscapes adorned with rice fields and traditional architecture, eventually arriving at this modern and serene city. En route, explore workshops where various aluminum articles are crafted, witnessing the intricate processes of foundry and forge, including the making of tools and artisanal firearms. After lunch, settle into the hotel into the heart of the city. Take time to stroll through charming parks and explore the bustling market, where workshops of embroiderers and precious stone artisans await your visit.
Day 3 : MIANDRIVAZO VILLAGE - TSIRIBIHINA RIVER
Embark on a journey to Miandrivazo, approximately 250 km from Antsirabe. Travel through the desert landscapes of Western Madagascar, soaking in the rugged beauty along the way. Upon arrival in the village of Miandrivazo, situated on the banks of the Tsiribihina River, enjoy some free time in the late afternoon to explore the city. Spend the night at the Hotel.
Day 4 : DESCENT BY PIROGUE & CAMPING - MIANDRIVAZO
Head down the river and venture into the Bemaraha gorge, where the scenery is stunning. Along the way, we encounter various water birds and interact with locals in the riverside villages. Enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by this natural beauty. Spend the night camping by the riverbank.
Day 5 : CAMPING ALONG THE TSIRIBIHINA RIVER
Following breakfast, a refreshing swim awaits at the natural pool called « Cascade ». Our journey continues with visits to small, picturesque villages, offering the chance to spot lemurs. Enjoy a picnic dinner and spend the night camping by the river.
Day 6 : TSINGY DE BEMARAHA PARK - BEKOPAKA
The adventure carries on as we head to Belo-sur-Tsiribihina for lunch before transferring to Bekopaka, the gateway to « Tsingy de Bemaraha » Park. Arriving late in the afternoon, we settle in at the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 7 : BEMARAHA NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, we embark on a journey to explore the grandeur of the big Tsingy, marveling at the vast rocky massifs and encountering fascinating wildlife like lemurs and unique plant species. We break for lunch upon returning to the village before continuing our adventure with an afternoon visit to the small Tsingy. Returning to the hotel, we unwind with dinner and spend the night reflecting on the day's discoveries.
Day 8 : MORONDAVA - BAOBAB AVENUE
Following breakfast, road trip to Belo, pausing for lunch before proceeding to Kirindy Park. Here, encounter various animals, including the renowned carnivorous mammal known as the Fosa. Explore the sacred Baobabs, marvel at the Baobabs in love, and witness the stunning sunset at the globally renowned Baobab Alley. Finally, we'll head to the hotel to conclude our eventful day.
Day 9 : ROAD TRIP TO BELO SUR MER
Following breakfast in Morondava, head towards Belo sur Mer. Prepare for a journey through varied landscapes, predominantly desert-like. Along the way, we'll also encounter Baobabs. Checking to the hotel upon arrival.
Day 10 : BELO SUR MER
This small town with around 12,000 inhabitants, has its roots in fishing communities and is renowned for its construction of Malagasy sailing boats known as "Boutre" or "Botry" in Malagasy. The climate here remains cool and windy throughout the year, except for the period from December to March. Its turquoise sea and magnificent sunsets create a serene and relaxed atmosphere. You can choose from various excursions to the neighboring islands such as Nosy Andravoho, Nosy Andriangary, and Nosy Andriamitaroka, earthly paradises.
Day 11 : MANJA TOWN
This tranquil town in Western Madagascar sits along the road connecting Belo-sur-Mer and Morombe. It serves as a suitable stopover for travelers journeying between these two cities.
Day 12 : ANDAVADOAKA VILLAGE
Journey along the Western coast of Madagascar, marveling at diverse landscapes and the stunning waters of the Mozambique Channel. Andavadoaka, a charming fishing village nestled within the Morombe district, awaits our arrival. This region, known as the "Vezo" is inhabited by seafaring people who call the coastal areas home. An optional excursion via traditional dugout canoe can be arranged for those seeking more adventure.
Day 13 : FREE DAY IN CHARMING ANDAVADOAKA VILLAGE
Enjoy a day of leisure with full board provided. Optional sea excursions are available, offering various activities to choose from.
Day 14 : TRIP TO SALARY
Experience a brief retreat along the Mozambique Channel, where Madagascar's Western shores promise cherished memories. From serene seaside moments to delightful hotel stays, this tour offers an array of unforgettable experiences. Dive into the underwater reserve or explore the coastal landscapes for an adventure-filled retreat.
Day 15 : CONTINUE TO RANOHIRA
During our road trip, explore various small villages, each showcasing unique architectural styles influenced by local materials and environments. Our journey includes a visit to Zombitse National Park, known for its dry forest nestled within the desert landscape. Also discover the sapphire mining village of Ilakaka, before finally setting into a conveniently located hotel near Isalo National Park.
Day 16 : ISALO NATIONAL PARK
Isalo National Park boasts remarkable biodiversity, showcasing a rich array of flora and fauna. The park is steeped in history, with various theories surrounding its name's origin. One hypothesis suggests it stems from a battle where the losers were left stripped. Others attribute it to the area's rugged and inhospitable terrain, shrouded in local legends. With around ten mammal species, and unique rock formations like the Monkeys and Rats Canyons, as well as notable landmarks such as the Cave of the Portuguese, Isalo offers a fascinating landscape to explore.
Day 17 : ROAD TRIP TO FIANARANTSOA
Explore Ambalavao on the way, renowned for its production of Antemoro paper crafted from the Avoha plant. This natural paper, adorned with intricate designs of plants and flowers, originates from the Antemoro Region on the Southeast coast. Witness the paper-making process and you can also purchase these unique creations. Founded in 1830, Fianarantsoa is steeped in history and offers opportunities for leisurely strolls, although its hilly terrain may pose a challenge for some. Also witness traditional Betsileo sports like "Savika or Tolon’Omby," where young locals engage in bare-handed Zebu fights.
DAY 18 : TRAIN JOURNEY TO MANAKARA
Travel by train along a route established by the French in 1926, spanning 18 stations and showcasing breathtaking landscapes of forests, waterfalls, and mountain villages. This journey offers glimpses of diverse flora and fauna, alongside encounters with local farmers and traders at each stop. Arriving at Manakara on the Southeast coast, a colonial town with a quaint port, marks the final stop. Here, enjoy pristine beaches fringed with coconut palms. Also explore this unique city. A half-day excursion to Vohipeno unveils the Tombaux des Rois Antemoro, offering insight into the cultural heritage of the Antemoro people.
Day 19 : MANAKARA - RANOMAFANA
In the morning, head towards the North of the East Coast, then venture inland. The landscapes along this coast starkly contrast with those of the West. En route, pass by various economic resources characteristic of this region, such as green pepper and coffee plantations, as well as abundant banana crops. Check-in to the hotel in the early evening.
Day 20 : RANOMAFANA NATIONAL PARK
This site holds world heritage status due to its dense, humid evergreen forests that dominate its landscape. Throughout the park, encounter numerous bamboo plantations and swamps, which serve as habitats for various plant and animal species, including pandanus, crayfish, freshwater fish, insects, butterflies, crustaceans, amphibians, and birds—many of which are endemic to Madagascar. The park is also home to 12 species of lemurs, as well as carnivorous and insectivorous mammals. Within Ranomafana, the rainforest boasts a wealth of rare plant species, including ferns, bamboo, and hundreds of orchids.
Day 21 : BACK TO ANTSIRABE CITY
Early road trip for the return journey towards Antsirabe, opting to stay overnight at a different hotel this time around.
Day 22 : LAST DAY IN ANTANANARIVO
Heading towards the hotel in Antananarivo, where optional activities await, including visits to the Queen's Palace and exploring the city. Before departure, you can look for some souvenirs at the local market. This marks the end of the trip.
